How It Works

Stepper motors should run at 60-80% of rated current for a balance of torque and heat. RMS current = peak / sqrt(2). For TMC drivers, Vref = I_rms x (Rsense + 0.02) x 32/31. For A4988: Vref = I_rms x 8 x Rsense. Too much current = overheating and skipped steps. Too little = lost steps.
